Kat's gifts at home at last

More than a year ago, Katarina was kind enough to send me a couple of small garden ornaments. I was still at my old place then, and had nowhere suitable for them, so I kept them carefully until I did. They even came through the house-move safely.
Now they look at homeā¦
Thanks, Kat!

I'm relieved too, I'd have hated to have had to own up that they hadn't. I've still got a tiny cermaic bell to hang, but nowhere safe or suitable at the moment.

thanks Pam and Lincs. I had a touch of bleah! when i couldn't even summon the energy to come online more than once a week, and even then could only manage to delete spam emails. No idea what caused it, but glad it's wearing off.
The ornaments are water-holders, and so probably should go indoors, but i don't have a pot big enough for them to go in at the moment without crowding the plant.
I recently re-read Eric; I had the illustarted novel, but it was too big for me to get to the top of the page - think the pages were A4 or thereabouts, and i just couldn't lift it that close to my eyes. Gave it to the charity shop, i think, and now have a paperback. I'm having the ssame promblem with The Last Hero, but can't find a just-text book yet, sigh.

Glad to see you back Fran, i was wondering where you'd got to. the library might get you a copy of the Last Hero? We borrowed it from ours.

thanks Stera. I wrote to the Discworld website and they said there were no plans to bring out The Last Hero in any other format. but that was then, of course. Lol anyone want to swap for a hardly-opened illustrated copy?

The large print section in your local library would have
plenty of books both paperback and hardback for you to
enjoy Fran.

Thats just been released onto kindle, or will be soon I think, as is the Shepherds Crown, do you think he finished it before he passed away.
I still enjoy Rincewind and the Luggage when they appear. ....oh Granny Weatherwax is another favorite
thanks again Fran for opening Discworld to me xxx

The Last hero we borrowed was just an ordinary book Fran.
If you can get it on a tablet it would probably be easier to read?
Pam the latest books are all written with someone else and are really very different from the ones he wrote on his own. Enjoyable enough but not Discworld.

I have the same problem wtih tablets or kindles as I have with pdf's on the computer: i can enlarge the display, but not the text size, so I end up reading a sentence a few words at a time, scrolling along, reading a few more, then i have to try to reassemble it when I reach a full stop. I prefer converting to Word when I can, then I can enlrage the text and read a sentence as a whole - but there's an awful lot of editing before that: the text comes across in the original lines, which, once text is enlarged, can spread over five or six lines, so i have to stitch it all back together - and it enlarged text can be up to a thousand pages. lol by the time I've done all that i'm sick of hte sight of it!
i haven't been to a library for years, the ones in Tower Hamlets weren't that much cop, so I'll have to see if the one in Shrewsbury can do better, ha, could'nt do much worse! or i could renew my subscription to RNIB talking books.
I'm always a bit wary of books written by a "name" and someone else; the suspicion is htat the someone else did the writing and the "name" just added a bit of polish.

Ah that explains it Stera!
Its just not the same is it.....
I really recommend trying the library Fran, ours is small in the village and are soon becoming one run by volunteer villagers and the parish council. This is happening all over Leicestershire, I would enquire and see if it can be ordered in for you......

Ah well Fran, you get 10 out of 10 for effort, not that this is much help. Good luck with the Library.
Pam I think the joint authorship with the recent ones was probably the only way he could manage it. Alzheimers is a very cruel disease.
