Lobelia, Great Blue

Genus: Lobelia.

Species: Lobelia siphilitica.

Great Blue Lobelia is one of my favorite native summer perennials. It just happened to appear in my yard one spring. Since then, I have scattered seed all over my yard and have gotten one reward after another. Not only butterflies love it, but the hummers do too.
It likes wet woodlands, swamps and floodplains. It's very similar to Cardinal Flower but has blue instead of red flowers. In my yard I get shades of blues and lavender, and some plants have flowers that are heavily striped.
