my new babies (Sternbergia lutea)

these are Sternbergia lutea and they are coming into flower 10 days after planting.

cant yet as the place i plan to put them is covered in brambles and other assorted weeds.

i know the feeling sea... lol, they are pretty are they same family as crocus, or am i being a bit thick here :o))

not being thick at all and the honest answer is: i dont know i havent checked yet. I will when i can get the time to look it up in my big rhs book.
they are not crocus family i know that.

thanx sea, just looked a bit like a crocus flower in the pic, but i can see one has leaves like a daff shape, i havent seen these before,

No, I don't think they are, Sbg/Sandra. I seem to remember looking them up when I got my first one. I bought three more at Beth Chatto's on Thursday! :-))

they belong to the amaryllidaceae so a member of that family. I can sort of see it when you look closely at the flower structure.

yes just scale it down and less 'open' and it is amaryllis.

So not far to off Sanbaz when you said the leaves looked like Daffs, they are of course also in the Amaryllis family.

Sadly, Sbg - not a fun-time at Beth Chatto's at all! It was on the way to visiting my son, and I was allowed just a few minutes to gather up the plants on my list - so no garden-visiting, or Nursery-browsing. :-((
