Thanks Bik and Drc, The plants below the tree are daylilies. Needs to be cleaned for winter. That is a chore I do not enjoy.When that is done it will not look so "ratty".
This tree puts up quite a show in spring as well. Loaded with white flowers on its horizontally layered branches.
