I envy those who have old apple trees or vast pergolas to support this incredible plant. I tried it on my balcony and found it to be, after two seasons, completely unmanageable. It was absolutely sensational for the 14 days it was in bloom, but I and my dogs drowned in all that white glory for weeks afterwards as it deposited itself over everything and was continually being dragged into the house. It's canes are daunting in size, extremely thorny, and the plant rather susceptible to lice. All in all, I had to accept defeat and take it down.

Isn't that lovely, despite the thorns. Very tempted to grow one. By the way I now realise your dogs are Coton de Tulear and not, as I thought, Maltese.Gorgeous.
