This is my previous lemon, given to me as a poorly-looking tree in 2005. After much TLC it fruited well , most of which went into G&Ts. Alas, it died whilst out-doors in summer 2008 - the leaves dropped off and I think I watered it too much as the roots rotted. Hence the new plant.

The lemon was only indoors for the winter - I believe just about all plants prefer to be outside in the summer. The lemon was OK for a couple of years like that, then ... dead, but not, I think, from the weather. The papyrus is known here as Umbrella plant, a small version of the Cyperus Papyrus - which I have in my pond, again outside in summer, indoors in the conservatory in the winter.
I hope the current lemon will grow and fruit regularly from now.

I love the lemon tree. I've wanted some citrus in here for a long while, but not ready to fork out the money. Half his plant here would go for $80. And thats in summer with no risk shipping!

Interesting to see this previous lemon with lots of fruit.
Do you expect the new Christmas present lemon to give fruit in 2009, or might you have to wait longer ?
