I'm trying to get this growing up into a purple leaved cotinus coggygria - however, it is not a very vigorous plant and is taking a bit of persuading...

You are doing well to keep it going, this is a tricky one. I have no success, even though most other Clematis are ok.

Sorry to hear that Vincent.....I must say, I've given this one no particular attention, but they are slow.

i understan htis no hardy - many yeer ago i try, but it die over winter - how youf ind it?

Hi Derek - It has been hardy for me so far and it's been in for about 3 years now. The base of the plant - the rootstock - is well under the shrub I'm training it to grow into, so I suppose that is giving it some shelter from the worst of the weather. It survived last winter, which was even colder than this one I think! If you try it again, try to get a well established plant in a big pot - not one of those baby ones you can buy cheaply (or buy the small one and grow it on in a pot before planting out). Good luck.
