Hi Ang is that Compost Your Putting Down Around Your Plants or are u having a Good Flower Bed Dig Over :) X

It's B & Q organic mulch, Jac, £5 per bag, each bag covers approx 1.5 sq metres, so can work out really expensive, but essential, especially for new gardens. need to lay it 2" thick all over beds, it helps retain moister, surpresses weeds, protects crowns of perennials over winter, and improves the soil in the process, - the worms reallycome in handy for this, as throughout the season they drag it all down into the soil, hense no need to dig over in the spring! the best thing to use is leaf mould or your own compost from composter, but i have used all that was ready, from my composters, so i am having to buy more, but hopefully next year i am going to get some bigger composters so that i don't need to top up from B & Q. but i have learnt over the years that winter mulching makes such a big difference to sucess the following year!

yeah why not, still organic, should be fine. an effective winter mulch does need to be a couple of inches thick though. but emptying containers is also good, i do that too.
