Sambuccus Nigra ( Elderberry) "Black Beauty"

Sambuccus Nigra ( Elderberry) "Black Beauty"

For those who think elderberries are common just look at this. It has beautiful black leaves and lovely pink flowers. It grows to about 10 feet. This photo doesn't do justice to the leaves as it shows mainly their reverse sides. The front of the leaves are shiny and virtually black.

See the next photo in my GoY pages for the golden leaved version of this tree

I also have the golden leaved variety. I've added it to my GoY photos. I intend to plant the Black leaved version next to the golden one. I think it should look spectacular.

I've not seen this one Am, i've got black lace, it's only a baby but flowered well. I do love this one, what position does it like? I was wondering why other seem to have a problem with it as elders seem very dependable. I did have the golden one, but as I didn't prune it, it got too big. Might get another as its young leaves are such a good colour ¦:-)

i have the sambucas but not niger ~ i think that one is spectacular ~ ive seen it in one of those open gardens and it is so effective amongst the flowers.

Was it grown as a short shrub, you know, cut right back to get all young growth, or allowed to grow naturally?
