A garden flower photo (Ceanothus Repens)

You can just about make out all the young shrubs in this border after we first planted them in early 2009 (broom x2, euonymus, weigela, blue blossom, the perimeter leylandii, flowering cherry and photinia).

Thats a lovely border, but I fear the Leylandi will very grow fast - 3-5ft per year and about 6 ft wide and take all the goodness from your shrubs which are way too close? I wonder what other members think?

I know we have variance in how often we prefer to move things from all the time, to never....lol! If it outgrows, I say just move it. :-) Could search the Leylandii here and get tons of info. A great selection of shrubs.

WOW! I searched an looks like leylandii is a quick fix for fast growth and screening but with alot of after problems. Can't prune it too much without killing it so they are often overgrown and they suck all the nutrients from the garden leaving a bare spot. Might want to rethink it altogether. I had no idea! The golden variety is much slower growing and better suited, if that is what you have.

We'll try and keep the leylandii in check with 2 prunings a year. They can be a pest and soak up the goodness, but our garden is so wet and clay-ey anyway it might be that they do us some good - and they're so convenient in screening us off from the main road that runs right beside our house.
They're staying for the moment...but will report on any issues!

leylandii did the exact job they were meant to do...they saoked up all the wet and left the garden perfect before we chopped all 58 of them down 8 years later :D
