Thanks! It's widely grown here as shrub or sub-shrub, depending on the variety.

The thorns aren't as bad as they look. The tip usually isn't as sharp as a rose thorn. However, with that being said...I wouldn't want to fall on this plants. : > )

Crown-of-thorns is widely used as a landscape shrub here because of their extreme drought tolerance.
The varieties range from tall to very small. The flowers are also available in many colors from scarlet, white, pink, and yellow

I have never seen it on sale over here, I prefer the red more dramatic.....

Dottydaisy2:
Red/Scarlet is the most commonly grown color. Some of the more compact forms are especially beautiful -- because they also have more flowers. They are very widely sold here, inexpensively. However, if I ever wanted one I could always get a cutting from a neighbor or friend.
I have the dwarf red form which only grows to about 12 in./ 31cm. tall.

That would be a useful size to have......

The large variety looks really good as a hedge against a white wall...like in this setting. The smaller varieties are good as a potted plant.

As you say pictured against a white wall stunning...
