Rhodo Yak. species (K Wada) flowers just opened.

When they first open, the flowers have a lovely pink flush.

This is the origional species (Yak. K Wada) found growing about 10,000 feet high in the Mountains of Yakushushima in the 1930's it was introduced to the UK in 1939 and was growing, in Exbury Gardens: its qualities where only appreciated after the war, and all Yak. Rhodos' Hybrids owe the parentage to this species. I used it as the "seed parent" for my Suffolk Pink: the very pale pink you see in this photo, in a few days, fades to pure white; that is why I crossed with the deep red Dopey, to bring some red blood into the mix.
