This unknown flower that smells like honey and attracts flies and butterflies is the largest plant in the bed....

Wow..., what a gorgeous black butterfly ! Lori I think that white blooming plant is a Eupatorium Serotonum. Mine is in bloom too. Isn't it wild how your plants always wind up blooming at the same time as mine from mid summer on, even though you live in a much cooler climate.

Wow Lori - he's a beauty. We've got one called a Red Admiral - it does actually look a lot like this one, except that white circle is red instead. Strange that - two continents and two butterflys with the same markings, just different colour....

interesting name, Flcrazy... serotonin? hmmm...it sure does smell beautiful...wonder if the plant has a medicinal usage? I can't be more descriptive of the scent...it is heavenly...oh for a perfume that smelled like that!
There are so many lovely creatures that I've given up trying to remember them all...can't remember what I had for breakfast some days! lol...
Thanks Janey! He sure has good taste ....if you want butterflies plant this hardy perennial...they love it~

thanks for the nice comments, folks... sorry Sid, you slipped past me...lol. Yes I've noticed many similarities in wildflowers, birds and insects..but the differences are great too...especially your robins!! I love them...our robins are a much larger bird, just as lovely in their way, boisterous too...with their beeps and carolling song...must get a pic to post. we see so many pics of your robins...should have one up there of ours!

This is a really beautiful shot. I love the butterflies. We only have three around here. I have spent all summer trying to get a pic of our robin but it wont come close. Like it just knows I'm trying.

Sorry Lori, yours is actually Eupatorium perfoliatum if it's fragrant. Mine is Eupatorium serotinum , mine doesn't have a sweet fragrance, it has more of a spicy, earthy smell.

I was so grateful for the lovely waft of scent ...it kept this butterfly enthralled long enough for me to get three or four reasonably good shots..and get close enough too... try some eupatorium perfoliatum in your garden...it's really hardy here so it might do ok in Fairbanks..with a little help from it's friend!
Thanks for the update Flcrazy... I really want to get some Joe Pye now!
