In an Arty moment......

Bought one of those Guardman Moorish metal art from local GC.As they have a rusty effect on it, and I wanted to blend it in with trellis colour scheme, I had an arty moment and decided to paint it with hammerite.it was fiddly, but am pleased with outcome. We cut out some trellis to give a window effect, and am hoping to add a coloured plastic backdrop behind it to give it a stained glass finish.

That looks great :o))

Thanks Yorkshire, I won't tell you how many times the air turned blue doing it though lol! With a coloured backdrop behind it, it should really look effective. My other half is even talking about fitting a small light behind it for evening use, once we've fitted the coloured plastic sheet. :o))

will look brilliant with a light behind it, what a good idea

This wasn't expensive to buy, £14.99 in most GCs, but I love the idea of enhancing it with light, Yorkshire. Am hoping to locate a burnished orange or umber translucent plastic sheet to give it that stained glass effect, or you could add a mirror instead if you so wanted. :o)

lets see it when you have finished it, the plastic sheet sounds good, especially with the colour you have in mind

Will do, just struggling to find a company on line to supply it at mo, and haven't seen anything remotely similar in any DIY store over my way, but I won't be beaten lol , it's out there somewhere! ;o))

how about if you ask under the gardening section on here, someone will tell you were you can get it from I'm sure, might just be worth asking

Yorkshire, you are a genius! Hadn't even crossed my mind that this site could help locating it, thank you so much for that suggestion, I really do appreciate it. Am still so new to this, that haven't checked out even a quarter of what info is on site here. You are an absolute star!:o)) XXX

looks great flori, you have given me idea as my sunshine has gone rusty looking from my hols, going to paint it now :o))

Hey Sanbaz, glad you like it,only hope your air doesn't turn as blue as mine did lol, it is a bit fiddly to do! I also bought the Spanish Arch metal art,and have painted that too-do you think I need to get a life??? Am going to put a mirror at the back of it, and if all works ok, will post results incase anyone else should feel inspired by my arty madness hee hee hee :o) )

Gee TT, you're making me blush lol! Compared to how dull it looked when I bought it, adding colour really brings it to life, and setting it into trellis like this really adds interest to basic trellis work as well. Do you think I've missed my calling.....? ha ha :o)) Sanbaz, am working on it even as we speak lol! Had a flash of inspiration last night and remembered an old framed mirror I no longer used, best form of recycling eh? Watch this space..........:o)))) X

I am watching the space! I love it , you are so inspirational-------- I want one !!! :o))

Ha ha Valadel, don't know so much about being inspirational, but I love trying to get the very best out of something, think it must be the challenge lol ! What do they say about your only limitation is your imagination? well that and money of course! I'm hoping this will look even better when it is completed, but just shows what a bit of paint, time and occasional cuss word can achieve. I really do need to get a life hee hee! By the way, you can buy one of these in any Garden Centre, and cost £14.99 or thereabouts if you are interested :o))))x

I am very interested I'm always buying things to hang on walls and fences, will have to keep my eyes peeled.
I know what you mean about getting a life, lol , but I can't help it my mind is always on the look out to do something different.
Keep up the good work! ;o))

You sound just like me Valadel lol! I like all kinds of artwork in among a garden setting, as it is visually stimulating and works in harmony with planting. Trellis is so good for climbing plants, and allowing a degree of privacy, but apart from that, it can be pretty boring to look at, so I like to add a little va va voom to it, if you know what I mean lol. Am so chuffed it's been so well received though, I even noticed it has been logged under 'Funky ideas', now that is a first! ha ha ha :-)) x
19 Mar, 2010
Well why not "Funky Ideas"--- it is ! :0))
19 Mar, 2010
Ah bless you Valadel! Think first time in my life I've ever come under that label before lol! X

I think that is absolutely stunning Bev. Is there a pic with mirror now....or have you not found a suitable mirror yet? Coloured plastic....you might get that in a good craft shop. We have one here.in a village about 10 miles away..let me know if you're still on the lookout as I need a good excuse to go up there!
15 Jun, 2010
Have found where we can get some coloured plastic on line at long last, but have yet to order it, but as soon as it's completed I will post a picture of it on Goy!
I am working on a different one at mo, it's a Spanish metal wall art arch, and I am going to mirror that one if all goes well! Thanks for your lovely comment my friend :~))x

27 Aug, 2010
Well, in theory, it should, plus thinking of adding some lighting behind it for an evening display, but you know what they say about the best laid plans...lol! :~))
27 Aug, 2010
Yes I do Flori ....it should look nice though :-))

Wouldn't a whole fence line of these look wonderful or used as the sides and back of an arbour or such ?
There are so many possibilities.
Your idea of framing it is very good too. Well done.
