I've made windspinners with CDs in the past - meant to be birdscarers in the veggies, but didn't work. I hung them from a tree instead, and when the sunlight caught them, it made revolving rainbow-coloured "disco lights" on the lawn Children and pets have great fun chasing them, lol!
Great bit of recycling/re-use, Janette.

Hi Janette. Just been looking at your Cd garden pole. I think this looks fantastic. It's ideal for the sensory garden I am coordinating at my daughters school. Can I ask you was it difficult to do? Could children carry out or be helped with? I would to like know how you threaded the balls onto the dowling rod. Did you cut crosses into them? I would love to copy your idea if you don't mind? If you have any tips it would be gratefully received and good for the children to learn about recycling! The way you discribed how the light dances really appeals.

Hi Beeky it was very easy to make ,but an adult would have to put the holes in the little balls I did this by routing out the holes with a craft knife and then pushing them through the dowling ,then adding a cd I put two on each space ,that way the light catches under side as well ,then another little ball and another cd and on untill you have got as many as the length of dowling .its very time consuming ,but fun to do ,the little bird is a cane topper ,you can buy these at most GC if that any help.
