did you "preserve" them from the weather?

Hi Franl155, I haven't done anything to the table and chairs yet but they are looking a little worn now so will probably do them this year. They live in the shed over winter though :)

ah, that helps! we got a garden bench for the communal garden where I used to be a volunteer; we had to give it two coats of varnish before assembly (they only managed one) and an annual re-application.(none in two years).

It seems a shame that they're willing to spend ££ to buy something but not spend £ to keep it at its best (of course, spening money is a lot easier than spending time and effort!)

I do like your set: most of the garden furniture sets I've seen are four-or-six-chairs-and-table, much too big, far too fancy, and much, much too expensive!

I agree, just a little time and effort is all that's needed to make something last. Instead, a lot of people would rather just throw them out and buy some more!

I'm really happy with this set, I bought it in the sale. We were given a couple of folding wooden chairs before I bought the set which match quite well so we have four chairs if we need them.

I was a little miffed when hubby decided to use the table as a saw bench though! THat's another reason it needs a coat of preservative!

lol it was ever thus - a convenient table-top will always find lots of uses.

Sadly, we seem to live in a throwaway society; don't bother maintaining or repairing something, just chuck it and get another one. (Seems to apply to relationships, too, these days!)

I don't normally look for furniture in supermarkets: a friend saw a corner sofa suite in a Tesco catalgoue, but I said I'd buy furniture from Tesco when I started buying groceries from Argos!
