A full, branching to the ground Gold Medallion tree. This tree is the most commonly planted Cassia species in southern California. It has beautiful golden/yellow fragrant flowers which bloom only in Summer. Photo taken August 4, 2010.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments! : > )
This tree is so common here...people here would probably laugh if they saw I've posted this tree. (I've posted several in the past also) LOL! : > )
Typically Gold Medallion is more tree-like, not branching or allowed to branch to the ground like this one posted.

I have seen some Cassias around here, but not that one. Senna pendula is common, and is actually a weed.

There's several species of Cassia which grow like weeds here also.

This one does very well in the Bay Area. The one I planted in 1990 is still in the same place in Hayward. It was amazing it survived the 1990 freeze as a gallon-sized 1' plant with no damage at all.
I've seen several in San Jose flowering. I would guess it should flower well Oakland south in the East Bay. On the Peninsula, it should grow and bloom well in San Mateo and south.
