Geranium maderense

Geranium maderense

The first flowers on this are beginning to open, and soon there will be a huge mass of them. It takes about 3 years to flower, then it sets seed and dies. It is becoming invasive because the conditions for seed germination are perfect.

I have no problem getting some seed for you. They are huge: 3-4 feet tall and wide, and no way to prune or restrict their growth. If you are thinking about growing it in a pot, I have have never tried, but they might need support if grown alone. But they are fantastic when the sun hits their fuzzy flower heads, and the leaves alone make a huge statement.

I'll give it a try .
It sounds interesting , and it might behave differently here .

That is GORGEOUS Wylie! If you're feeling generous, like Driad I would love some seed. I have plenty to swap if you'd be interested: Lythrum (purple loosestrife); Hibiscus trionum; Isatis tinctoria (Woad); Daucus carota 'Queen Anne's Lace'; and Centaurea cyanus 'Cornflower'. Just PM me and I'll happily post them to you.

No problem Driad . . . just PM me with your address (and a reminder of which seeds you'd like!).

I will PM both of you when the seeds are ripe. If you look at my photos, you will see that most of my land is devoted to daylilies, and were I don't do much, I grow things like this that don't require too much attention. The small "good" land is being used this year for white & purple tomatos and white habanero chilies; so thank you for the exchange offer. I've already planted 125 daylily seedlings and have about that many more to go - as soon as they get just a little bigger.

Thank you Wylie . . . I'll PM you too!
