Oh that reminds me Paul, I had my first bee in the conservatory the other day....masssssseeeeeeeeve bumble bee! The first ones out are always huge...any idea why that is?

Only know sweat bees and bumbles - but have a pretty good book on insects - so get back to you on that

Lovely grass Karen. I saw a huge bumblebee in the garden the other day, and yesterday there was a huge wasp in the porch. In the Garden News the wildlife writer says that no matter what bees we see early in the season they'll be queens.

Must look to see if ours is flowering, and thanks another plant named for me.

Helenium, Ah, well that's what I assumed, but that seemed a bit unlikely...thanks!
Dotty....my pleasure!

Love the grass Karen. I have seen some huge bees in the last couple of days, they seem really sleepy.

What an attractive carex - hope it's not as invasive as 'pendula'.

Thank goodness that the bees are coming back to life! Wagger, it's in a pot so it's going nowhere!

Karen, I think the Carex pendula can be a nuisance because it self seeds.

Thanks Helenium. All my carex are in pots on gravel so shouldn't give me that bother, and if they do, easy to pull up. Be nice to have one or two more scattered around though! Thanks for the warning.

A bit of carex pendula 'arrived' in my garden and I'm still pulling up seedlings five years later, lol.

I love how dependable carex is...

Yes, its a 'doer' that's for sure. :)

aha!! I have this grass, I did not know it's name, Paul asked me a few days ago. Thank you Karen, I shall write it down now :)))
