Oregon Grape in bloom

Oregon Grape in bloom (Mahonia aquifolium)

I understand this is an invasive weed in Europe but it is a well mannered native plant here in Western Washington State.

You are quite right to say it can become evasive. A friend of mine has it growing in one one of her shrub borders. I think they are all self set from seed from a very fertile parent plant in the next door neighbours garden. Once they geyt their roots intertwined with the main border shrubs they are very difficult to clean out. I do love their heady scent.

I'm finding it very slow-growing. Never heard of it being considered an invasive plant here.
