I understand this is an invasive weed in Europe but it is a well mannered native plant here in Western Washington State.

me too - i have a baby one its actually a type of Mahonia and mine is taking ages to grow. i think it is very pretty!

You are quite right to say it can become evasive. A friend of mine has it growing in one one of her shrub borders. I think they are all self set from seed from a very fertile parent plant in the next door neighbours garden. Once they geyt their roots intertwined with the main border shrubs they are very difficult to clean out. I do love their heady scent.

I'm finding it very slow-growing. Never heard of it being considered an invasive plant here.
