Oh fab specimens, Andy. I bought one many years ago - tempting fate but couldn’t resist...- as you can imagine, one long, cold winter was enough to end its days.

Stunning trees... weevil attack is a major problem for many types of plants.. e.g. heuchera .. vine weevil.

There’s actually millions of Canary Island palms in San Diego, but so many are being affected by this horrible South American palm weevil. I hope it can be eradicated before it spreads into the Coachella Valley, it’s possible it could cause problems to the multi-billion dollar date crop.

That's worrying, isn't it. Horrible weevils. We need some new methods to slow them down. The 'planet-friendly' methods seem to have very little effect, while stronger substances to eradicate the weevils are mostly dangerous to other plants and wildlife.

This palm weevil is devastating the entire population of palms worldwide. The seeds remain viable for a couple years under the best conditions.

Yes, these weevils are so very destructive! I hope, too that San Diego County can come up with a natural way to erraticate or control the weevils.

Bathgate, the seeds from Canary Island palms can be viable for more than 2 years. It can take two years for the seed to germinate. Mature female Canary Island palms can produce many thousands of seeds.
