Hemerocallis Gall Midge

Hemerocallis Gall Midge

Just a picture for Wylie and Daglelie of the distorted buds caused by hemerocallis gall midge, hate the little blighters, this pest only affects the early flowering daylilies and the only solution is to pick off and destroy(don't put in compost) all infected buds to prevent the grubs falling to the ground overwintering and starting the cycle again next year, it doesn't affect all early varieties some are pretty resilient, if you open the buds you'll find the tiny white grubs inside only around 3mm long though so too small to photograph, you lucky things not having this pest :-))

Thanks. It gives a different perspective to what it looks like. If I only used photos from the AHS, I would have missed some of the ways it looks.
Since all my daylilies are either from seed or came as bareroots, hopefully I will miss out on this.

Glad you found it useful Wylie, anything that looks suspect comes off :-)
Its a pain Carole good job the season for its soon over.
Oh dear DD, suppose the only solution is not to grow earlies but that seems a shame as there are so many lovely ones :-)
Think I'd cry if it did Amy :-)
