I got this Torch Lily, also called Red Hot Poker, at a plant trade last year. It looks nice with the variegated Sedum next to it.

I've seen these in so many gardens and heard the raves of the people who plant them...I really should give them a try...

They're stunning Lori, the first few days that they bloom, but they don't last long and get ugly quick.

Always a down side, aye? I guess, since they are a bulb, you have to leave the uglies til they die down themselves...like tulips...or can you snag them as soon as they start to look ugly?

I've always cut the flower heads off mine as soon as they finish. I leave the leaves which can grow into a very big plant. The leaves get untidy in the winter and I think it's a good idea to tie them together so that they dont sprawl everywhere, and then take the dead stuff off in early Spring when new growth is starting.

As per Chrispook, I tidy mine in spring. Old stems and brown leaves, and I get quite a hoard.
Mine has just thrown is stems up (Literally in the last few days), I have 26 visible stems and I can see maybe 20 more just starting.
If they all flower together I'll post a piccy or two.
