That wasn't always the case Constancesp :)
I read a tip on the internet saying to spray the foliage with miracle grow to make it thicker and stronger and thus less attractive to the slugs and snails. It seems to work.

Oh, will have to try that, S. One of the hostas in my garden (a pretty yellow leaved variety - don't know name) is completely chewed - not a leaf left intact.
