well i rather like it as it is, a wild beautiful place which is [presumably] free ~ so we can all enjoy it!!

Hm. If people know that something belongs to everybody/nobody, they will plunder it and nobody takes responsibility for that. So I am for responsible owners.

Are there many areas like this where no one specifically owns it?
we have open areas but some are owned by the National Trust ~ they look wild and open but in fact they are owned and managed.
