My Jacaranda tree being windblown during an intense El Niño storm yesterday

We had gale-force winds and very heavy rains...also, a very, very unusual tornado warning for a few hours in San Diego, CA. yesterday (Jan. 19, 2010)

Poor plants :-/
The winds are SO destructive.
We get strong south westerlies here in the spring and they wreak havoc in my gardens :-((

Yes, these storms have bee very destructive to the plants! The plants/trees are not used to such unusually strong rain/wind storms...as we don't receive much rain here....with the exception of an El Niño year. (which we're having)

Yes, and by the end of today many more trees will be down.
