My Thunbergia 'Blushing Susan' Blew Over in Huge Storms

My Thunbergia 'Blushing Susan' Blew Over in Huge Storms (Thunbergia 'Blushing Susan')

My Thunbergia 'Blushing Susan' blew over in the huge, severe flooding storms we've had over the 4 days. We've had the worst flooding in San Diego and most of California in 30 years. A "Pineapple Express" (a huge tropical moisture plume from Hawaii) set up over the state causing extreme flooding for the last week. Some places have received 30in/762mm of rain and in the Sierra Mountains 17ft/5.2m of snow. It's been very crazy!!! Photo taken Dec. 22, 2010.

That was a hell of a size!
That is way freaky weather, and that much snow in the mountains is surely going to be bad news when it melts....
The weather is pretty crap here, but at least it's relatively benign.

Meanie:

My Blushing Susan vine was growing up a dead tree trunk.

The weather has been very crazy here this year. This flooding is much needed rain...even though some part of California resemble swamp land. Mission Valley, where the San Diego River flows, looks like a huge lake and swamp land in areas. Luckily, a "Pineapple Express" only happens every 5 or 7 to 10 years.

The snow depth of 17ft/5.2m fell at an altitude of over 12,000ft/3660m...deep in the Sierra Nevada Mountains...it will be frozen for a long time...and will melt slowly in the spring.

Sometimes, slow is good! Especially when it comes to melt water...

Terratoonie:

Well, not so dry...my laundry, storage room below is completely soaked. Also, my dinning room carpet 6ft/2m from the French doors into the house is soaking wet. It hasn't been fun! :>( We're definitely not used to this here in San Diego.

Hope the storms have finished now and the weather settles down to nice and warm and sunny again :o))

Hi Neighbor

I measured 7.55 inches (19.2 cm) of rain here over the duration of the storm. The ground is very soaked, mushy and my garage had quite a bit of water in it. We really don't see this type of rain that often in San Diego. At least we're on high ground. Hope you get things dried out soon because more rain is on the way, though they say nothing like we just had.

Palmate:

We had some nice warm weather for Christmas Eve, however, Christmas Day was mostly cloudy and we're expecting more rain...not so much this time though.

Randallsd (Neighbor):

Yes, we're definitely not used to almost our year's worth of rain in 6 days! It's so crazy! Sorry to hear about your flooded garage...thought, I saw the door open over the last couple of days. It's definitely an advantage we're on high ground...although, I feel sorry for all the people below us which had flooded streets and garages on Wednesday!

Talk to you soon.

Yes, my mother said it rained pretty good in Hayward last night. It's a good start to the rainy season up there. We're still sweltering in very hot weather...mid 90's here and further inland to almost 100ºF. I'm actually very tired of the very hot weather. We need rain so badly. The plants/trees look horrible everywhere from this drought...also, it's amazing how many trees I see that fell down in last week's horrible, severe thunderstorms. I don't think I've ever seen wind damage to trees like I've seen from these storms. Some places the estimated winds were 80 and maybe to 90 mph. This is extremely rare for San Diego.
