Adenium obesum - Desert Rose

Adenium obesum - Desert Rose (Adenium obesum - Desert Rose)

My Desert Rose is not quite in full bloom yet...but, it's getting there. With the continued warm to hot, dry weather it should be in full bloom in the next couple of weeks. Photo taken May 16, 2012.

Katarina:

Yes, I've seen the desert hyacinths in the desert. The low subtropical desert is only an hour and a half drive east from me.

Katarina:

I usually drive out to the desert almost every early spring (when the heat is bearable). Last year I went in the horrible heat of summer, which I said I'd never do again. lol!

Yesterday (May 16) it was 108ºF/42.2ºC out in Borrego Springs (low desert) in far eastern San Diego County. I hate this kind of heat!

I do have many photos of the desert in my thousands of pics somewhere posted on GoY.

will check it hope there is a desert hyacinth :) how can plants survive in such heat! Amazing.

Katarina:

Most of the native plants in the deserts (low, medium and high) go dormant in summer. All the desert plants are in their glory in in winter and spring.

The low deserts of the South West commonly have temps up to 120ºF/48.9ºC and hotter in summer.
