This is a seedling that popped up in my yard from one that was eaten by bugs a couple of years ago. Photo taken Oct. 7, 2013.

My Alocasias never seem to do well here. The tubers get eaten by bugs (all the time). I gave a small piece of my original plant to my friend (a few miles away) and his grow to 8ft (2.5M) tall! I was so jealous!
When I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area my Alocasias (I had many) would grow gigantic and very quickly, also. The climate here in San Diego is better than the S.F Bay Area; however, the soil is much better in the S. F. Bay Area and the rainfall is much higher.
