DD - dare I ask how your aloe is doing?

30 Sep, 2016

You dare Andrew!! It died it rotted off, kept it going for about 18 months, never got to the ground unfortunately are you thinking of getting one then?

30 Sep, 2016

Possibly. I know they are prima donnas though, so looking for any hints on their care.

It's all about the compost...... although they need more water....too much and they rot! If growing outdoors need to be raised can take cold but not wet, the plant we had, was not a good specimen (not making excuses) So were at a disadvantage to start with.....was in the wrong compost!.....good luck, fantastic when they start to curve!

I might risk one outside in a part of the garden where I have Bagshot Sand. Already have a banksia enjoying the conditions.

Has the banksia flowered? we looked into getting one many years ago, but decided we had enough to cope with:-!:-!

Not yet, but it has put on lots of new growth this year. I grew the same species in the past for four years in another part of the garden, but it drowned after a particularly wet winter. In its last year, it carried fifty blooms.
