Unknown Aster in front garden

Unknown Aster in front garden (Aster)

This has been a great little plant. Was a cutting taken from my brother's new garden. Unlike all my other asters it shows no sign of mildew and is an early flowerer.

looks lovely against that silver leaf ~ what is the leaf?

Thanks Sticki......it is Brunnera 'Jack Frost' Spring Flowering, cut right back to ground when foliage is looking sorry for itself, regrows within 2 weeks and if lucky more flowers. There is a picture of the flowers on my photo pages somewhere. It's just like a forget-me-not. It's best attribute is that the slugs hate it!!!!

It's a beautiful colour, Scottish...I agree with Sticki - perfect against the silvery leaves... :))

So pretty with the Jack Frost....I used to hate them because of the mildew...but I found that not all of them go yucky. I have two now....and one of them...erm....Frickartii Monch...flowers from July. The other one, Novi-Angiliae 'Violetta' is a wonderful deep violet, but is only just now starting to flower. This one on your photo is very pretty, I hope someone will I.D it for us!

Thanks for that Scottish - think I will plant brunnera all around the edge of my garden!

It is a lovely plant and had interest for lots of the year. I think Heucheras are better though....they are all year plants! :))...and you can get silver ones too...and the flowers go on for longer....and they change colours....and the range of colours.....blimey, I really am getting very evangelical about Heucheras now! :))))) I do love Jack Frost though!

it was the fact that slugs dont like it that attracted me!!

Good point!!

I've got to be honest now....it was not deliberate when I planted these plants :) I took some of the Aster from my bro's house when he was busy ripping everything up!
It's a wee bit straggily (Dont know the technical term) but you don't notice it if is tuck in with other plants!
Thanks Karenfrance and Karensusan. I have a few asters that are just yukky - I am going to dismember them soon and leave a little bit of each and see what happens next year!
Sticki if you don't mind waiting I can give you some of this.

i would love some thank you scottish, they didnt have any at the GC today when i looked; we have lots of GCs near here so if i find some in the meantime i will let you know. thank you.

No probs Sticki, they are spring flowering Sticki, so maybe a bit too early for the GCs yet.
Just had a quick look at Crocus online, they have them available in 2-3 weeks, but they are expensive @£10.
Please do not go buying them at that price Sticki.
If you manage to get them cheaper - don't go buying lots as they divide very easy.

Thank you Skip :)

Really beautiful composition. I think I might fave this as well. 'Jack Frost' Brunnera is just fabulous - I'm growing mine next to a 'lime marmalade' heuchera, but it would be great to set it off with some cheery asters like you have.

Thank you very much for the compliments tralamander...it does look rather nice, an accident of course. All the nice things in my garden tend to be more of an accident than on purpose I'm afraid! I should try not put so much thought into things :)
Just a beginner so everyday is a learning day!!

Well, Scottish, you sure did inspire me! I planted an Aster beside my Brunnera an was so delighted with the results!
