Beaucarnea stricta - Ponytail Palm

Beaucarnea stricta - Ponytail Palm (Beaucarnea stricta - Ponytail Palm)

This Ponytail palm is not as widely grown as Beaucarnea recurvata...although it's just as hardy. Photo taken Feb. 14, 2010 at the Realization Gardens, Encinitas, CA.

Louise1:

I think this tree is maybe around 20 feet/ 6 meters tall...not sure how old...I think B. stricta grows slower than B. recurvata. Maybe 60 years old...probably older though. I just read in Feb. 2010 Zoonooz that the largest B. recurvata at the San Diego Zoo on Elephant Mesa is more than 70 years old...and it's not as large as this tree.
