I love this big shrub! It bears flowers which turn from deep purple to yellow, then white. Most likely it's a common landscape shrub in the UK, also, Photo taken in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. on March 21, 2012.

Meanie:
I thought this species was hardier. It's native to the subtropical areas of Brazil. So now I'm guessing it doesn't grow outside all around the U.K. lol! Maybe it grows outside in Cornwall?
I do know some of the other species are very tropical.

In a sheltered spot in Cornwall maybe. It is generally not the cold but the wet mixed in that does for the borderline stuff here.

Actually, Brunfelsia pauciflora tolerates very wet and cold soil. It may the cold that will affect it in most of the U.K.

Not hardy enough to deal with our cold and wet winters. There is a cultivar (name escapes me) that is fairly readily available as a house plant for sensible money though.
