Caesalpinia pulcherrima - Dwarf Poinciana and Delonix regia - Royal Poinciana

The Dwarf Poinciana is blooming and it'll be 3 or 5 years before the Royal Poinciana blooms. This is in the new section at the San Diego Zoo. Photo taken Aug. 28, 2012.

Caesalpinia species are very common here in California. Generally, C. pulcherrima, gilliesii, and mexicanum are the most common species. Although, C. ferrea is starting to become very, very popular because of the absolutely gorgeous trunk!

I do like the Cassalpinia genus, but I'm sure that you're just waiting for the Delonix!
