Cassia artemisioides - Feathery Cassia

Cassia artemisioides - Feathery Cassia (Cassia artemisioides - Feathery Cassia)

This is a very sweetly fragrant shrub which is a winter-bloomer. It's extremely heat and drought-tolerant. Photo was taken at my dad'd house which is on the border of the desert. Feb. 26, 2018.

I think I still had mine when I joined GOY. For some reason, people we hired to pick up junk...cut my tree down.
But once it got blooming it was near all year. Senna multiglandiosa I think it was.

I still can't used to changing the genus to Senna. I used to have a giant Senna multiglandiosa (Cassia tomentosa) when I lived in Hayward. It even lived through the horrible 1990 freeze with a lot of damage; however, came back big and strong the same year.

I think Cassia leptophylla and fistula are my favorites! I love the very fragrant flowers! :>))

After having looked it up on Wikipedia I've decided it's not for me! ? I liked the look of this shrub & thought I wondered if I could grow it on our balcony - no chance!

Very nice looking shrub all the same! ??

Balcony,

Yes, this shrub would definitely prefer to be in the ground. I loves very hot weather and not a lot of water. If it doesn't get enough heat it would not flower well.

That's a shame as I can't fulfill any of those conditions! ?

There must be some really nice yellow-flowered shrubs you can grow there, right?

Stan,

I was going to suggest that little shrub.

Yes, there are other nice yellow shrubs here as well but I think there are few that might flower as long as yours!

Thank you Andy for letting me know its for hot areas.

I read this Cassia flowers all year. I'll have to ask my dad if it does, though.

I know when I had Cassia tementosa(Wholly Senna) it would flower summer through winter and rest in spring.

Penny, almost all Cassia species are native to the drier tropics. They need a lot of heat to grow and bloom well.
