Clerodendrum close up (Clerodendrum ugandense (Blue glory bower))

I know that I've done this to death over the last year, but I couldn't resist adding this shot of a Butterfly Bush flower enjoying the sun!!

The large sized image is here.......

Thanks Milky - now if I could just get my Brugmansia to flower as reliably as this does!!!!

I love this!

Meanie:

It is a spectacular flower shrub! Just wait until it becomes huge...you'll have many thousands of flowers to show off.

Last year when it was small the shrub almost disappeared under the flowers!
This year I potted it on and it had a real growth spurt. It's now setting its first flush of flowers since the repot (despite the blackfly, which seemed to love it), and my hopes are high.
I can't allow it to become huge though, as it has to live in my conservatory over the winter!

Meanie:

In a pot it won't grow to its ultimate height of 12 feet/ 3.7 meters and almost equal spread. It is a very tough plant...I've read if they freeze to the ground they will usually come back in warmer weather.

Why take the chance though?
As a bonus, I get the first flush of flowers in spring and the second late summer too!

Meanie:

I wouldn't take the chance...especially if your soil freezes. If the roots freeze most likely the plant will die.

What else?

See who else is growing Clerodendrum ugandense (Blue glory bower).

See who else has plants in genus Clerodendrum.

This photo is of "Butterfly Flower" in Meanie's garden
