The individual blooms are good, but it has produced very few.

It looks a lot like Dendrobium kingiana. I hope mine blooms this coming winter. I think any blooms are better than none at all. :>)

It is a D.kingianium hybrid Delonix. Bloom every autumn and/or spring.

Okay, that explains it.
I'm going to start fertilizing my orchids. They might bloom much better and more frequently. My Cattleyas never bloomed this past spring or summer. :>(

My Catts are winter blooming even over here. Like Kingy Dens and Cymbidium, they seem to need a cool/cold spell to promote flowering.

I think Cattleyas can bloom anytime. I see them bloom mostly in early spring through summer. It's a more tropical orchid than some Dendrobium or Cymbidium hybrids.

That's what I thought too, but it really does respond to the "cold treatment"!
17 Oct, 2012
Some species from higher elevations are more hardy. The lower elevations species are not as hardy and tolerate far less cold.
When you say "cold treatment" what temps are you exposing you orchids too?
17 Oct, 2012
By cold I mean about 5°c.............
17 Oct, 2012
That's pretty cold for a Cattleya. It must be a high elevation species or variety. Many Dendrobium and Cymbidium species tolerate this temp very well
