Dianthus

Dianthus (Dianthus)

I grew this from a cutting - luckily! The parent was a winter casualty.

Did you? I was a bit suprised that they didn't turn out to be hardy. It was the older ones that just gave up and crumbled away. Sad, as I didn't know their names.

Oh, so glad you had this protected. What a wonderful color. I'm building the dianthus collection this year. This one is so wonderful.

It isn't one you recognise, is it, Gt? I didn't find it in my plant books. :-(

Sorry Spritz, I don't. I saw one similar starting at the nursery, but that nursery has these great labels like 'dianthus, raspberry center'. :-) Not a whole lot of real info. :-) I'll be going looking for it now I've seen this.

It's really hard to get names for plants like Dianthus. There used to be hundreds of cultivars. esp. in Britain, but most of them are long gone.

Vincent, if you don't know, then it will just go down as 'Dianthus'!!! We will all be turning to you for help in ID - ing our plants now you are with us!

Very pretty, Spritzhenry.Does it have a scent?
It may possibly be a double variety of Arctic Fire - see http://www.veseys.com/ca/en/store/perennials/dianthusp/arcticfire
Veseys is a very reliable seed supplier here in Canada.
Or Dianthus 'Brilliant Star' - ZipcodeZoo Photo ID: 298389 at http://zipcodezoo.com/Key/Plantae/Dianthus_Genus.asp

Thanks, Elke - I shall check these out. :-)

I have - aren't they lovely? think mine is more petal-ly than 'Brilliant Star', but very similar otherwise.
