Dracaena fragrans in flower

None of mine are in flower yet! I've also got lots and lots of grasshoppers in the garden since the 'wet' arrived ... I've got quite a few plants that look like this!!

Mine are flowering out of season.
Bernie you may be able to tell me why I don't get advise any more via email when I have comments on photos. I do'nt know how to get on to the person who does all that stuff.

Wow! The grasshoppers sure have done a job on your Dracaena! My plant actually looks worse though...I moved it from its shady spot into the sun and it completely burned up. It will grow new sun-hardy leaves soon though.

I have several in both sun and shade, the sun brings out the variegated colour better I find.

Yes, they do look brighter and grow faster in more sun. There's one around the corner from where I live which is around 20 feet / 6.1 meters tall planted by a swimming pool in full sun at a motel on the main boulevard.

I too have this plant.Luckly no damage have been done yet by grasshopper.But mine is not flowering.how old should be the plant to bear flowers?Can you tell?

Camillia ... I hope Pitta doesn't mind if I answer your question. I've had quite a few Dracaena fragrans plants in my gardens and from my experience I can say that
... not all Dracaena fragrans do flower
... it's usually the ones that are quite mature and have been either in the same pot or in the same spot in the ground for many years
... most of the time they need to be around 6 feet tall when they first flower.

This plant rarely blooms as a houseplant. They usually have to be in the ground and be around 6 feet/ 2 meters tall in almost full sun...however, the the taller ones (10 - 20+ feet) grown in the ground here have the most flowers because the flower spikes emerge from the tips of the branches.
