Naked Coral Tree growing at Cardiff-by-the-Sea. This species of Erythrina and many other are very commonly grown in southern California. Photo taken Feb. 22, 2012.

It's one of the hardier species of Erythrina...although, not nearly as hardy as E. crista-gallii.
This tree looses its leaves the ending of January or early February just before it starts to bloom..

There's more than 130 species of Erythrina...most likely we grow 50 species or so in California.

No I have a E.crista-gallii, that one is still alive :o)

You had a E. coralloides which died?
E. crista-gallii is one of the hardiest of the species. Most of the other species are very tender trees.
