This is a yellow Coral Tree. Erythina is a very common tree planted usually along freeways and in parks. There are many species grown here usually having scarlet, orange and yellow flower that mostly bloom in winter through spring. Some species do bloom in summer though. They are pretty dangerous trees to grow in the home landscape even though it is grown frequently there. They have very large thorns all over the tree and the branches break very easily in the wind...damaging anything underneath them.

Yes, the branches and the trunk are full of large thorns. Some species have fewer thorns than others.

Marguerite,
I'm surprised you don't have one in your garden...they are so widely grown in the tropics even though they have thorns.

Are the thorns all those bobbly bits I can see along every branch?
Look like they could do a lot of damage!
