This is growing in dry shade in heavy clay soil. Seems to be enjoying it.

Looks so healthy Andrew. Mine has just started it's huge flower buds but not a patch on yours. I don't think the wind last weekend did it any good either.

It's only four years since I planted it, and completely sheltered (unless a twister lands on it)

Wow!!! Is it hardy I wonder?

It's come through four winters here in balmy Bracknell without a murmur.

So pretty and effect . I did nt realise there were different varieties with Fatcia

Wow! That's very different. I've never seen this variety before...and Fatsia japonica grows pretty much everywhere in shade here in California.

I moved ours about three weeks ago, so fingers crossed it will be ok....

Dottydaisy2:

Is this variety suppose to be less sun-tolerant? I know there's a different variegated form grown here in California. It needs semi-shade, shade because it'll burn in the sun.
I'm sure this variety would have been fried here last week when we had the 106ºF (41ºC) and hotter temps all last week.

No way!! they are shade lovers, especially this one.

Thanks! I figured...generally as a rule variegated plants need less sun or they're burn (Acalypha wilkesiana varieties are the exception).

It is a very interesting variegated plant.
