This Fiddle-leaf Fig is growing one block from the beach at Pacific Beach, San Diego, CA. Typically, this tropical African Fig tends to not like to grow so close to the beach. Photo taken June 21, 2011.

Yes, it looks very good, considering it's so close to the beach. This tree typically doesn't like salty air. It grows much better at least a few miles from the coast.

omg- good thing I bookmarked some photos for a second look. That's enormous. Did you ever see the trunk? Smooth or fluted?

It's really not so tall...only 30'. I've seen many much larger and taller. I see several F. lyrata along the freeways on my way to work.
This tree has a single trunk. I can't remember the specifics...even though I've seen it many times.
