Thanks - the other Galega isn't in flower yet; it's a paler mauve.

Not tried this, might be good to have instead of the HGs (the sprawling ones) reliably hardy?

Yes, definitely. It came from Bob Brown (Cgf). The other one, G. officinalis, gets rather large and needs support. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a large space!

I had the paler one but lost it in the very bad winter. luckily i collected seed and a dear friend also sent me some. They are small plants but as long as the slugs havent got them they should be ready to plant out soon.

Make sure you have lots of space, though. Those slugs (and snails) are a real MENACE! Grrrr.....
