False Mangsteen tree is very rare in Southern California. This photo was taken at the Fullerton Arboretum, Fullerton, CA. on Oct. 3, 2007. The fruit from this tree has almost magical properties...High Anti-oxidants and the list goes on and on...

You said it is rare, but is it native? I'm constantly astonished at all the wonderful trees and plants that you grow, some of which I have never heard tell of...lol. Will have to google this one.

Terratoone:
Yes, the fruit on this tree is quite extra-ordinary. To much interesting info. to post on this website. Check it out on the internet.
Lori:
I wish this tree was a native! It is native to India, Bangladesh, Malaysia. This is the only little tree I've ever seen growing in California. I hope it eventually becomes available for sale in Southern California. The true Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) is extremely tropical from the wet tropics...and can not be grown here, or would be a major challenge to grow here. Commercial plantings are located in countries that are in the torrid zones or very hot humid, wet equatorial low-elevations of the World.
