I have the same problem Dawnsaunt. They do not like wet feet. We have lots of rain in winter , clay soil and the water stays puddled all the time. Then in summer we have extreme droughts. Difficult situation for trees and plants.

I can imagine it is difficult for you. It's consistently damp in some places in my garden. I stupidly planted wrongly and it struggled on before finally giving up. Cold, wet, clay here too in winter. For you, at least in the drought conditions, clay better than free draining soil I guess.
I have sourced one on eBay for £6, bargain, free postage. ?. Im going to get one, thank you for reminding me of their beauty and good luck with your trees.
