Thanks! I just got this one this weekend. It was on clearance at the garden center but still looked pretty healthy. It was just labeled heliconia. The bloom is starting to open up, so I will take a pic when it fully opens.
This is the third heliconia I have now. It is a lot smaller than the others, so perhaps it will stay small.

I went back to the garden center and they had one of these labeled Heliconia psittacorum 'Choconiana'.

I thought it looked like a variety of H. psittacorum. They are a very popular dwarf species...never heard of the variety though. Great info.
Thanks!

I recently got a heliconia psittacorum 'choniana'. Does anyone have any tips to take care of it. It doesn't look very happy in my apartment. How much water and light does it require? I have kept it close to a window which faces the South-East direction.
Thanks!

I really like your dwarf heliconia. It looks like Heliconia psittacorum. I used to grow a lot of Heliconia and knew a lot of the names of the species...now, I only have 4 species growing in my garden. I have one very dwarfish form that has never bloomed, it only grows to about 18 inches tall.
