Heuchera 'Amethyst Mist' with Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens'. There are bulbs in that space!

Well - I don't like the look of the space now! I might pop a couple of baby geraniums in. LOL.

I love this grass...but it is very slow growing, isnt it?....

I find it spreads sloooooowwwlllyyy along. That's fine by me! I could do without any extra 'thugs', Motinot, thanks. Got too many of those, already! ;-))

like the dark grass with that lovely Heuchera.

I have an Ophiopogon which I had in the garden but I could never see it as it just blended in and got lost so I now have it in a pot where it's been for the last couple of years. I really must try and improve my gardening design skills and keep trying but so far no good. I'm trying again now ready for next year.

Oh dear, Toto! Did you have it a) too far back in the bed or b) against dark plants?
12 Nov, 2009
No I had it right at the front among dark plants.

Ah! Too much darkness all together? I suppose it would get lost in that grouping. Shame - I like it!

It's growing really well in the pot but I'm starting to learn a little and will try with some bright plants in the front of the border again next year. Perhaps a bright green grass. What do you think?

I'd have to say to you to think about the shape of the planting, as well as colour contrast, Toto. Two spiky plants together? Not a good idea. Try something a little taller, but with rounded leaves - like Aquilegia, maybe, or ......geraniums? LOL. I bet you guessed I'd suggest that!
There is a gold-leaved Aquilegia, or one with white flowers would look amazing with black grass to set it off! Or - Calendula with bright orange flowers? How does that grab you?
You've got me designing your garden for you - ooops!

Oooh, yes! White flowers! Lovely. :-)))
You're welcome, by the way - my imagination is running riot!
Oh - by the way - I have Limnanthes (Poached egg plants) planted with some of mine - and Geranium 'Bill Wallis' as well.

Thanks Spritz. I'll certainly take your advice. I'll look for somethig with white flowers and rounded leaves.

You're welcome. I'll be interested to see what combination you come up with! :-))
