I have been pulling down the papery spathes as they are full of water after the rains and black fly. Also taking off the dead blooms as soon as they have finished!

Nancy, my front garden has sunshine (when it's out) nearly all day, the back which is more enclosed, gets the sun somewhere about 1/2 of the day, so the Iris there are 2 to 3 weeks later. Extends the flowering season?

Yes indeed Hb, and the rain has made the photo better than last weeks's pic. Glad the rain didn't turn the blooms to a soggy mess.
