Kalanchoe blossfeldiana - Red

Kalanchoe blossfeldiana - Red (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana - Red)

These were moved from another part of the front yard to this spot last year sometime. They're flowering well right now. Photo taken March 26, 2017.

Great to see these lovely plants outside of the house! Here in the UK we can't grow them outside - at least not outside till the end of May & then they have to come back in under cover in October because the first frosts have a habit of appearing towards the middle of the month.

They are quite common as houseplants here & we have had a few over the years, in fact I gave our son a white one for Christmas last year!

Thanks. It's a very common ground cover here. So many color varieties are available. Pink, red, yellow, orange and white are the most common colors. There's some multi-color and double varieties available, also.

Yes, we see them all here but only as houseplants. We've also had a couple of doubles over the years as well.

Yes, it's a very easy plant to grow. Just stick them into the ground and water once every two weeks. It's a very drought tolerant plant.

Just today I was looking at some photos of them from 2015 when we had a double rose one.

The white one I gave my son just before Christmas 2016 is still doing just fine. I saw it in his garden just last week. I told him it's not frost tolerant & should move it back inside if any night we are forecast frost. We get an occasional frost in the first week of May some years - it's caught many an allotment grower out with their spuds & runner beans!

I think this plant will tolerate a very light frost for a short period of time, without damage. I don't get frost where I live in San Diego; however, when I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area I used to get the occasional light frost in winter and this plant tolerated it well.
